Sissle integrated into Windows Explorer
Sissle has
been deceptively quiet recently but now that I have achieved the first
step of the master plan, its time to provide information.
The master plan / road map is simply stated as to allow applications
such as "Word" to read from Amazon S3 and write to Amazon S3 and to
hide the details of downloading and uploading of files. The first step
is to provide a shell namespace extension for windows explorer. This is
techy talk for integrating sissle into windows explorer. Here is a picture taken from a Vista 64 bit system of Windows Explorer.

This shows the normal C drive down to the Recycle Bin followed by
Sissle NSE. This is showing in the left window, buckets in light brown
and folders in blue. The right hand window is showing the contents of
the folder Test. Uploading is achieved by the normal mechanism of
selecting the files from c:\Test (say) dragging and dropping in the
folder within Amazon S3 "Sissle NSE/distest/dwarf/Test" (say).
Downloading is achieved by dragging and dropping in the opposite
direction. Other operation are performed by right clicking and
selecting from the menu.
A note for existing customers, the upgrade involves no extra payment
for this beta version and / or the final version. Also treat this as a
trial version and retain your current version of Sissle.
This is about to be released as a beta version, hopefully in about a weeks time (today is 4 Sept 2009).
